We would like to introduce you to a new member to our coaching staff – Tóth Erik. Erik was raised in a small town in southern Slovakia, Levice. Besides studying Nutrition and Regeneration in Sports Science, he also got a degree in English language and literature, so he’ll be more than happy to speak to you in English. Before his college years he played basketball for 10 years, which he switched to American football at university. His enduring love for CrossFit started (in his words precisely) on 6th of January 2013. He attained his CrossFit Level 1 certificate and he has been a strong believer in the principles of CrossFit ever since. In 2014 he moved to Bratislava where he has been working as a full time CrossFit coach up until he moved to Budapest in March this year. In this period he visited us on several occasions and the whole team got to know him as an enthusiastic and honest guy, for whom CrossFit means everything and it has been all mirrored in his lifestyle. In the following brief interview, you’ll see, why we think he is going to make a great fit to our little community.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and why have you started?
In the fall semester of 2012 I’ve studied as an exchange student in Porto, Portugal. I’ve spent all my days surfing and training and my host buddy introduced me to some of his CrossFit-like trainings. I’ve never really liked the traditional bodybuilding training, even before this time I’ve always naturally merged more exercises together into supersets with very little rest and high intensity. After returning home from Portugal, I’ve decided that CrossFit is something made for me and turned my whole training philosophy around.
Why have you started working as a trainer?
I love working with people, help them achieving their goals. I feel like I can improve their life and health through the trainings and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing their progress. It’s very close to teaching English, which I did throughout my college years. It’s like giving a piece of me to the others.
What sports have you done before CrossFit?
I’ve played basketball for 10 years since elementary school and subsequently (after several ankle injuries) moved on to play American football at college. However, ever since I can remember, I’ve been fond of all and any sports. I love playing and competing, it’s in my nature.
What’s your favorite CrossFit WOD?
Any that I don’t have to do alone. I love working out with my buddies, there’s something special about sharing the pain 🙂 and it’s definitely more fun. If I was to choose my favorite movements, they’d probably be squatting (in any form), hand-stand walking and rowing.
What kind of diet plan do you follow?
I don’t follow any specific diet plan. I’ve studied nutrition at college, where I’ve learned all the ropes of building a sports nutritional plan, which can be tasty and contains all the essential nutrients my body needs for performing. I like to call it ‘smart nutrition’.
Why have you decided for B’Bros?
Because at B’Bros you’re doing CrossFit the right way – from the heart and for the people. I’ve known the team for a long time and I’ve always loved returning to their great community and wonderful box. This time I’ve finally decided to stay.
What are your CrossFit goals as a coach and an athlete?
At everything I do, I try to give my absolute best, to give my all and be the best version I can be. At this time of my life there are 2 defining things – coaching and competing, and I’m doing my best to give these 2 aspects of my life the highest priority.
What are your best competition results in CrossFit?
I’ve started competing in CrossFit in the spring of 2013 and I’ve attended more than 40 competitions ever since. I’ve managed to stand on the podium in more than half of them and win around a dozen. I’ve competed in local comps – in Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary and also international ones: Kings of Wod (Moszkva) 2nd place, Central Eurpean Throwdown (Bratislava) 1st place, Czech Beast Challenge (Brno) – 1st place or Wod Wars (Cyprus) – 3rd place. I also love competing in teams. Among many team comps, I’ve competed side by side the guys from the B’Bros team too. We’ve managed to win the Budapest Throwdown with Kristof and Dori and with Laura and her brother we won the team Madness in Brno.
That’s all for now about Erik, but feel free to ask him anything personally, he’d be more than happy to share his story with you. He’s been coaching with us for almost 2 months now and you can meet him at the classes in both our boxes.
